Bringing real-world data to clinical research and care

Last week LINQ had the pleasure to travel to French Alps, for the kickoff meeting of our new EIT Health innovation project RealWorld4Clinic, which took place in Grenoble on February 10 and 11.

The three-year-initiative is implemented by an interdisciplinary consortium of partners from France and Germany who will jointly develop an AI-powered health monitoring solution which can be applied both in clinical research and in cardiological patient care.

This new system will continuously measure a wide array of cardio-respiratory health parameters in clinical trial volunteers and patients in their normal everyday environment. The data will be passed on to healthcare personnel and allow insights into important biomarkers almost in real-time.

For many patients that suffer from heart failure, this could be lifesaving: With the data that this solution will provide, early warning signs of an upcoming heart failure decompensation could be detected up to 30 days before the catastrophic event actually occurs, so that preventative measures can be taken well in advance in the vast majority of cases. That way, RealWorld4Clinic could halve the rate of emergency hospitalization and also significantly reduce the number of ambulatory visits.

In addition, data collected by the device could strongly support early decision making in clinical development programs and improve the predictive power of clinical trials by up to 50%.

The project is coordinated by Profil GmbH, a full-service CRO for early clinical trials in diabetes, obesity and cardiometabolic disease, in collaboration with SentinHealth and supported by LINQ. Additional partners in this ambitious initiative include Fraunhofer Gesellschaft, University Grenoble Alpes, Inserm, RWTH Aachen University Hospital, CHU Grenoble Alpes, CHU de Rennes, Grenoble Ecole de Management, MADoPA, aQua, and the SurgiQual Institute.

After two intense days of presentations, discussions and planning sessions, the consortium left rolling up their sleeves – excited to get started, and ready to deliver.
