Global Health EDCTP3 invests in global health through funding collaborative research and innovation projects tackling infectious diseases and supporting activities for research capacity building in Africa.
Following the announcement of the topics in the 2025 work programme in December 2024, the respective calls were launched on 30 January 2025 and are now open for submission.
Together, the calls provide 214 million EUR in funding across a broad scope of topics and support research on tuberculosis vaccines, malaria therapeutics, prophylactic vaccines against neglected tropical diseases, transformative innovations in global health, and diarrhoeal diseases in the context of climate and health. Additional support will be provided for the setup of Strategic Training Hubs for Fellowships as well as for the strengthening of the Regional Networks of Excellence and Epidemic Preparedness Consortia.
Specific topics include:
- RIA: Global collaboration action for the development of vaccines for reducing the disease burden of Tuberculosis in sub-Saharan Africa (45.9 million EUR, 15.3 million per project, 3 projects to be funded)
- RIA: Global collaboration action for research on existing Malaria therapeutics and clinical development of new antimalarial candidates (30.9 million EUR, 10.3 million per project, 3 projects to be funded)
- RIA: Accelerating the development of prophylactic vaccines against Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in sub-Saharan Africa (45.9 million EUR, 15.3 million per project, 3 projects to be funded)
- RIA: Global collaborative action tackling diarrhoeal diseases in the context of climate and health (30.6 million EUR, 5.1 million per project, 6 projects to be funded)
- RIA: Transformative Innovations in global health (14 million EUR, 1.4-2.33 million per project, 6-10 projects to be funded)
- CSA: Strategic Training Hubs for Fellowships in Public Health covering Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Modelling (6.7 million EUR, 1.34 million per project, 5 projects to be funded)
- CSA: Global collaborative action for strengthening the Regional Networks of Excellence and Epidemic Preparedness Consortia (40 million EUR, 10 million per project, 4 projects to be funded)
All calls follow a two-stage procedure, with the following deadlines:
- Stage 1: 20 March 2025
- Stage 2: 02 September 2025
