Global partnership CEPI launched to prevent epidemics with new vaccines

Great news from the World Economic Forum in Davos:

With an initial investment of US$460m from the governments of Germany, Japan and Norway, by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Wellcome Trust, and with strong backing by major pharmaceutical corporations, CEPI – the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations was officially launched at the World Economic Forum in Davos January 19, 2017. The Coalition will seek to outsmart epidemics by developing safe and effective vaccines against known infectious disease threats that could be deployed rapidly to contain outbreaks, before they become global health emergencies.

The first call for proposals is open already, focussing on MERS-CoV, Lassa virus, and Nipah virus; deadline for submission of preliminary proposals is March 8, 2017.

CEPI is also setting up a database of independent experts to assist with proposal evaluations.. if you want to get involved and are willing to support the new initiative as an evaluator, send your CV and a short cover letter to apply@cepi.net by COB February 14, 2017.
